Greenhouse

Hello,

I want to start a greenhouse on my 5 acres of land in the country. I would like to be all organic, and concentrate on heirloom, non-gmo fruits and vegetables. Would like to do a majority of our sales on the internet. Possibly growing plants year-round to ship to warmer climates in the US. Any advice on how to get started, startup costs, feasibility, etc?

Melissa.

Sounds neat. I always wanted to start a hydoponics business but it seems they have gone away in our area.

I would recommend that you go to http://www.bplans.com/samples/sba.cfm and look in the Farm and Food Production Plans tab. There isn't a business there exactly like you describe but some are close. This will give you some ideas about the things you would need to do and the issues involved.

Then I would go to www.score.org. If you want face-to-face help enter your zip code to find the closest SCORE chapter and schedule a meeting with a SCORE counselor. There is also an online option. You can search by industry all over the US to find someone in your industry. They can help you in areas where you need assistance. SCORE counselors are all volunteers so it is free.

Good luck to you.

can i make a suggestion..
one good start would be to make a section of your busienss supply a demanding future....GREEN ROOFS..
as this industry grows, they will need suppliers to keep up with the demand..
you may contact me for a name or two of hi tech roofers that are already successful and may consider using you....now you have a stable guaranteed inomce from your business to help develop the rest of your business..
