Young, Motivated 20-year-old Entrepreneur Needs Your Help!

Hello everyone. I'm glad to have found this site. Let me start off by saying I'm a very motivated, driven and ambitious young entrepreneur who is fascinated by business and entrepreneurship. I've owned a few websites in the past, have had a few small eBay businesses and had one other offline company. I have the desire to succeed and I can't seem to get rid of the entrepreneurial bug or spirit (which is a GREAT thing). Now, although I don't view my past businesses as very successful, I have gained a lot of knowledge from them. My new venture is an internet business with tremendous potential, but I do need some advice. For the past 8 weeks, I've been working on a business plan and have finally completed it, all 51 pages of it. It just needs final editing and it is done.

I am launching this business in October. I have everything, including a marketing plan laid out, but I want to make this ultra-successful. I would like some advice on how to market the business. I have some marketing techniques already in line, but I'm trying to think a little outside the box. If anyone can let offer me some tips on how to obtain free publicity (TV, Radio, Newspaper, other media), that would be great. I've been in the media 5 years ago when I ran my website (all due to my hard work contacting outlet after outlet) and truly want to find a surefire way to obtain not only local, but national attention. Are there any headlines or stories that can be fed to the media? Thank you SO much.

Seems as though you are really excited about your new business venture. It seems like you’ve taken many great steps toward startup. Starting up is one thing but great management is everything. Since I don’t know much about your new venture, I couldn’t tell you exactly what headlines or specific words to use. Seems as though you need some PR (public relations), marketing.

Develop a targeted media list that includes journalists, local TV, radio, bloggers etc…. You need to develop a press/ media kit, promotional materials, press releases & send it out to your media list. Start writing & put out some articles about your new venture, your industry, your expertise, products, services etc…. Develop a compelling story to tell about your product, business or services. You need to develop a presence, get publicity on & off the internet. You must have or develop a great story to tell & tell it to the right people. Put a lot of thought & effort into your public relations & marketing. If you can’t do it alone then seek some help from a public relations company or marketing co.

Sometimes getting media attention can be hard, so highlight your best business, service or product features. Remember that you can only put forth your best effort to get media attention but it’s up to the media if they’ll listen & give you some attention.

Hi Dennis,

It's great to see another excited entrepreneur!

As far as marketing - I think I can help out as we found a company that guarantees Google first page ranking, top social media submissions, local directory submissions, geo-mapping and much more. It worked so well, I actually joined forces with them to help get the word out! We are specifically designed to help small to medium sized businesses!

Please let me know if I can help further - I have been networking for several years and might be able to provide some additional resources for you. Look to your local networking groups too... Many people are happy to help out!

Dennis,
I was a traffic manager for several television stations. The marketing will depend on what your product is or what you are selling. There are alot of business out there that want free advertising, get on the cover of a magazine or have national exposure. This is not realistic. You can find a high priced business manager and if they have a lot of high powered connections they may get you on a few shows but it is not likely. As far as television, IF it is a product, you can go for paid programs (you pay for 1/2 to 1hr show cost $50 to $250 per show) or pay per view advertising (your pay when someone calls a 800 number cost $5 to $20 dollars per call). This is how some have sold millions of one higher cost item. You can also run ROS spots which will run all times of the day for the same cost per 30 second commercial and cost $10 to $20 per spot. Some times you get place in spots that would have cost hundreds of dollars. Some time you get placed in the middle of the night. They even out in the end. The production cost for a 30 sec spot is $500 to $1500 and a paid program cost $5,000 to $20,000 depending on if you know people and what you want. The cost may be outside what you are looking for. Your best bet may be on line advertising or radio advertising until you build to where you can afford the television cost. With radio you can get ros spots and paid programs that cost less because the production cost are less.

Good Luck in your venture.
