Nicole Farns posted a new Starting A Business thread on 2/9/2012

Anyone want to help with starting a business from scratch in the Raleigh, NC area?

I do not have experience with business nor do I have a business degree, but most importantly, I have the motivation and drive to learn how to start a business and to take the plunge. I am looking for someone in a similar situation(or someone who already has some experience and knowledge) that I can trust will be as eager to start something new. I have some ideas of my own, but of course am open to other ideas. To all out there reading this- please respond if you are at all interested!! Thank you

I am definitely interested in talking to you about my business because I am impressed with your drive and energy. If my business doesn't interest you then I am still interested in helping you find the resources you need to start your own. If you would like to talk, please let me know.

Hi Nicole,

Of course you will be getting responses with a statement like that! LOL.More and more people are looking to start their own business, for financial/security purposes. As you do you evaluation of different companies....(and you should do just that) keep an open mind and make sure you educate yourself enough before you take the plunge into a new business or partnership with anyone. I am looking for a couple of key people to help me with the expansion of my company. I would like to speak on the telephone for a no obligation interview to learn a bit about you, find out what you are looking for, and see if we are a good fit together. I too am looking too expand in the Raleigh North Carolina area. If you are interested you can email me your contact info. vcvaldo@comcast.net

You will need a lot of motivation and all the drive you can muster starting a business. And don't ever be discourgaed if you want to succeed as I am finding that out now. I may need a business associate if you are interested in what I have started. Let me know. Thanks.

What skills and capital do you bring to the table? Just curious.

I agree with John Walden's approach: Get connected to a SCORE mentor in your area as soon as you can. A mentor can guide you to resources you need to improve your business acumen and won't ask you for money. Most SCORE services are free, except for nominally priced workshops. Best of luck! The decision to start a business is huge, but you'll be rewarded if you do your homework.

Here is my advice to you - jump in and do it. You seem very motivated and ready to make a change in your life. Please don't expect anyone to make it happen for you, and all advice goes only so far. Keep in mind that those who can - do, and those who can't - teach... There are number of businesses that you can start without having a substantial money backing - you can start on your kitchen table, without office, without overhead, and with very little out of pocket expenses. The only thing you need is drive to succeed and willingness to learn as you go. I've started dozen successful businesses without a solid business plan and without any funds... The hardest thing is making the initial decision to do it, that's all. Learn as much as you can about the business you choose, and make sure it's something you like - you are far more likely to succeed if you like what you are doing vs. something you have no interest in. Don't do it for the money, do it right, and the money will follow. Good luck and just do it! :)
