Where/How Do I Start a Home Business?

Hello ,
I'm Drew, I'm looking to start and maintain my own business. I know "nothing at all" as far as starting a business. I have a name for my business that all. I'm seeking any and all advice/procedures from this point and on...
What do I do next? Is there help like a step by step or do's and don''ts ?

Thanks for your time and effort!
Drew,

Drew baby you start your business from home. :) A name if fine but it would be helpful if we knew what service or product. Many, many years ago, I was driving my pick-up truck through town when a call came over the CB Radio. They were seasonal residents and wanted service.
From that request, I went into my home business providing niche service needed in my community.

Drew, Having a name is fine and that's a great start. But a name does not determine success. Do you know if you want to provide a service or products? Other questions that you should answer are the following. Have you researched the market to evaluate if there is a huge market? Are you solving a problem? Are you providing value in lower pricing?

A great way to get into a home business is to get with a company that has a system in place. It takes the leg work out of building from the ground up and it teaches a person how to run a business, plus its a low start up cause. We have a system or step by step process and support from a team. Systems work like owning McDonald's.

Take a look at this and if it makes sense get back to me with questions.

Drew you'll need a basic business plan. Start with research first. Think about ideas like location, demand, competition at the very least. If you really are as green as you say avail yourself of every scrap of advice you can get from qualified forums. Ask questions and take notes. Wishing you luck

I totally agree with mr. Daniel Jones. Without any ideas about a what you are going to sell/service, it's going to be hard. At least you must have a product and developed a prototype of this product. Then set up a cost and price sheet and then setup a business plan. Without a business plan, you cannot drive your company toward success. A business plan will tell you how to grow customers, how to sell your product etc. - Toan Thai Nguyen 1 on 9/7/2010

Go to your local SCORE office and sign up for their Business courses - there are many at all levels and you can acquire a mentor for FREE! I strongly suggest that you do this first - they have the software that you can use on their computers to create and work through your business plan, marketing plan and additional resources. They also give intro classes to quickbooks - accounting software - and help with the marketing and branding.

Hope this helps

Hi Drew, there are a few things that I suggest you should do. First thing is to sit down with yourself and be very honest about what it takes to start your own business. The hardest part is to ask yourself if you are disciplined enough to sacrifice some of your time - in the beginning - to achieve what your goal is. Financing is a huge part of it as well as doing a business plan. A business plan is not just for the beginning of your business - it gives you something to go by in the future to measure against and helps in re-planning when things go awry. It is a guide for you to know when things are going the right direction or the wrong direction. Some people breeze through a business plan because they do not understand what it is meant to do and end up hurting themselves in the long-run. On a practical level, you will need to figure out what it is going to cost to be successful at your business. Then figure out how to meet all the licensing requirements for your state and locality. Decide on what kind of business structure you need to protect yourself while not throwing yourself into the mire of high taxes. There is a lot to learn but it is not insurmountable, it is knowledge you will not regret taking the time to learn.
