Store to sell smartphone, tablets, etc (offline)

Hi there!

I am thinking of opening up a store to sell gadgets like smartphones and tablets, it's going to be a real store (offline) somewhere in a mall. I am thinking to buy some inexpensive unknown brands from alibaba

does anybody know what documents are needed? do I need to have any certification or any other documents for each phone/tablet that I sell?

are there any potentials hurdles?

Thank you

So you're going to sell some cheap brands that no one has ever heard of?... good luck with that. Unless you're Apple, profit margins on electronics are not that great and people in the US will only buy name brand.

Even if people wanted cheap unknown brands, you would have to buy in such large amounts from your supplier to reduce the per unit cost as much as possible. You don't have that kind of buying power, but BestBuy and others do.

Nathan W, that's not the point,

I am wondering if I need to have any documents like a certificate for each smartphone that I sell?

No you would need to become an authorized reseller from a distribution company. Purchase cheap phones by using a dropshipper - pryorcreekmarketplace.com or buynowtoys.com to list on a marketplace

Or, you could sell any computer/electronics and structure the sale, to make the financed payments for the buyer. Sell computers at no cost to the buyer. Plus, maintain a profit.

A mall is a very expensive place to have a business. You usually pay rent, utilities and a percentage of sales.

Hey Michael:

Just wondering why the phones and tablets would not come with all of the paperwork you need? People who have replied to you seem to be confused about the kinds of documents you are asking about. Are you selling in the US? Here is an article you might find helpful: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/810/~/other-taxes-or-fees-required-to-import-goods-into-the-u.s.,-other-than-duty

RIght, phones and tablets may come with some documents, and I am trying to find out what exactly is required. It looks like I can start selling any electronics in the US? The only thing what I need is instructions for customers in English. What about some safety standards? cell phone emissions level? - MichaelSR1 S 21 on 11/10/2012

Before getting a shop or a place where you can put up your store, you might want to clear up your mine. Mobile accessories like ipad case designs, covers and sleeves for Android and iPhone devices and other type of mobile phones accessories, are all available in Alibaba, in fact I also use its sister site aliexpress.com to purchase products for my shop. But if you are thinking of buying Actual phones and gadgets from them, don't you know that they mostly offer replicas or clone products of iPad, iPhone and Android devices? So if that is the case, and you will buy those items, make sure that those will not get hold in your Country customs, every governments have the rights to confiscate distribution and marketing of fake products. But, if you think your country allows those regulation, well your only problem perhaps will be the custom duties and taxes. For accessories, try also checking www.kekacase.com, they are also offering huge variety of mobile accessories.

The biggest thing in business is overhead! Protecting your bottom line vs profit. I am an essential services consultant am a reseller for Sprint, Verizon, & T Mobile. Energy and several other services.

The next important thing is time freedom, and the next is location. does it make good business sense to limit yourself to one location, vs being available to anyone in the world at all times. Starting business requires time but leverage is what creates wealth. Most people get into business and arent able to walk away cuz if it they are not there the business goes out of control or stops all together. I know from experience and this is a glorified job.

Take a look at what I do and see if our model makes sense to you. www.moneytrees.us
