Product Marketing Media & stubborn mindsets

When I was running my PC hardware site. I kept running into walls. Namely what I call a brick and mortar mindset. Out of the 4 distributors, all of them seemed to be stuck in the 70's. They didn't provide hardly any support as far as ecommerce. Their system of operations focused over haggling over prices by phone. They marked up their prices with a very little chance of a profit margin ( Most of the time Neweggs retail prices were cheaper than my wholesale cost). Then of course we get into the problem with product feeds which is the meat and potatoes of ecommerce. All 4 of them had strikes against them. MaLabs didn't provide a simple spreadsheet, no images, etc. Synnex & D&H provided data through 3rd party catalogers, but the data itself contained missing images, poor descriptions and much contained abreviated techno babble, plus it was real expensive for this. ASI distributions had support in csv and xml data, images and good marketing text, however to have complete product data I had to dig through 5 spreadsheets to get all the data on one item. So you can see why I left this madness.

Now to the present. I did a complete 180 degree career change and am now doing Web development. I picked up a few skills through the years and dealing with the ecommerce world I delved into learning Web Development. Ironically I was learned these skills focusing on my ecommerce goal.

Now I am working on a project for a Cabinet company, and they too are stuck in the 70's. From looking at their catalog which I need to incorporate into the site I have come to the conclusion that it is from a carpenters perspective. A sketchy diagram with measurements and a few pictures I got after twisting their arms. Not only this, but I am amazed at the lack of marketing content, a good description, a sales pitch you might say. No content but etcho sketch looking pics. Over the years I have learned you have to have a description, you have to market your products the best you can, you have to provide the viewer with all information they find pertinent. Not only this, but as far as seo this is very relevant. My question is their a company/ service out there that can write up product description and marketing text? Not only do I have to build this site but 3 others . Including one for myself as a bonus (I get a commission on sale besides the projects and upkeep)

You need a professional copywriter. Here is a link potential http://www.constructionwriters.org/
I have contracted copywriters in the home sewing and crafts area and it paid off well... even leading to production quality video which looped in-store in National chains.

Im not sure where you're located but I had a meeting with this man on Tues. and he opened my eyes to a whole new level. He asked me alot of questions that really made me rethink what advertising was and how it can change my business for me. Here is his information if interested. I highly recomend him!

BS - with all due respect, you need to clean up your own stuff if you folks are going to claim you are copywriters. Your blog exhibits grammer and language use errors as do your posts ...some of this might be just haste on your part but in general it does not leave a good impression.

Bloggers are copywriters

I don't handle the writing for clients. We have an outside person taking care of that. I am starting writing workshops soon. This is my biggest weakness I do make up for it in other ways. I learned fast how to care about others, sell, concept and go for it, this drives me to great heights.

I am now calming down and starting to fine tune my inner Truck Driver by educating myself. I figured now that I am doing well, have more time for myself, and answer to no boss other then my clients who Value me in a way a boss can not.

William!

We you mention "you folks" who are you referring to? Bloggers in general or Bloggers School team? With all respect, you took the time to go to our blog and trash it, so let's do the same for you.

My partner John might be lousy on grammar, but look at your site optimization! I mean, you don't have one. None of you pages have the name of you company on it. The home page is name home. Just great for SEO, hum? Click on your about page and check the title again. Impossible to be found, even if you don't have any misspelling.

Also, a picture is worth more than a thousand words. Your pictures speaks for yourself.

My point is, what is more important????? Waste your time trying to put people down (probably because you are jealous or fell a treat) or actually care about putting content out and useful information, like I am doing here, trying to educate you. You site has no content, much different than ours!!!

Also, if you put Henderson Consulting on Google, you are not even on the first page, because you don't name your pages or optimize them for it.

So, even if you think we suck, we are still being nice and trying to help you. You should stop fighting the reality and definitely hire our services or somebody who really understand Social Media to help you. Content is king, my friend! And we will get there!!!

Good luck! You will need it.

What I am needing is short and long descriptions followed by the product features. Usually for a short description I like using some marketing text, then on the landing page the long description with marketing following the features (the diagrams).

BS - Carolina
I'm OK w/ my site. It works for me. I am not in the Blogging/Social Media/SEO/Content business. Why the hysteria on your part?
The tirade does not address the posted problem from Chris.

Chris, what I have learned from my advisors is; when someone asks what you do, you should be able to answer them in seven words or less. Just enough to spark some interest then bring them in a little at a time until they are comfortable with you. I have also learned that no one is going to be able to pitch your product/service the way you want it until you know what exactly it is that you want. Help me, help you, help me. Get a new perspective on it ( another opinion) BRAINSTORM! And if you find someone that is just awsome at this please pass their info along!

Regards

grr, These forums are buggy. I wrote a dang book, hit reply and it didn't post. Go figure.

Ok, to put it in short I will try to get a copywriter. If the big boss doesn't see the advantages of this, then I will hire one for content on my site which will be better.

Sounds like a prudent approach. When searching for a copywriter gather sample works and critically evaluate them. Present yourself as confident you know what type of style you are looking for and that you are a tough knowledgeable critic. Remember it is YOUR project and the contractor will be working for you. You are ultimately responsible for the result. When you receive sample scripts, pass them around for comment …especially to people "in the business" of construction interior products. Does the work appeal to them? Is it relevant and effective? Upon selecting a copywriter make sure it is understood who owns the rights to the copy. Your firm should copyright the material, which can be done by display of the claim, the copyright symbol, the owner (your firm) and the date (year). It is not necessary to file the petition with the US Gov. yet, but be aware that your firm would be subject to defending any alleged infringement. The route you in intend to take is proven effective. Good luck.

Chris, I agree that you should find a writer in that industry. The reality is a number of media are out of work and now freelancing. You can score big time hiring them a. because they know the industry and b. they're great writers. My other suggestion might be to find a copywriter who specializes in ad/promotional copy. Good luck!
