Purchased leads & "do not call" list

hey everyone: I purchased some leads recently and several people said "we're on the the do not call list! I'm reporting you!" How can I make sure I'm getting numbers that are safe to call? What kind of trouble can I get in if I call someone that's on the list? Thanks for your advice.

I had a similar experience not to long ago. I purchased a fax software with a list of fax leads. I had at least 50 percent of the people calling to take their number off the list because the number is a residential number.

Half?? Wow, that's crazy. I guess it's just part of the risk you take when buying leads. It's very frustrating. - Noreen Gillikin 36 on 5/9/2011

I found this link on Do Not Call lists. It's pretty nebulous. Basically, you have to do everything you can to make sure you are in compliance. When you purchase lists, make the seller state in writing that they have been cleared against do not call laws in your state (and in the federal jurisdiction).

Hope this helps!
