I have a garden center and produce market in Orange Beach, AL. I have been in the business for 14 years, but opened this one in March. It has had over $350,000 in sales thus far. I also opened another in Mobile in August of this year with a partner. I now plan to open one in FL and move. This business is alot of fun but there are times of hard work. You have to go to Mexico for your imports (pottery, fountains and such), to market in Atlanta, to south FL for your tropicals and palms and such. You can get your bedding plants, hanging color baskets, ferns, etc. locally and the produce at the local wholesale market. I will work with you and show you everything you need to know and you can go with me to Mexico as many times as you need to until you feel comfortable doing it yourself. I will have to go for my other shops and I also wholesale the imports. Market in Atlanta is early Jan, then 1 week later is the tropical plant show in south FL. Then you go to Mexico. Come March 1st you must be ready because that is when the business picks up and goes crazy until the end of July. August is slow and you get a break but you use that time to get ready for fall which breaks the first of Sept until end of Oct. Then you have Nov and Dec for Xmas, but at this shop it isnt all that busy. You have some locals and off and on the snow birds. But then in Jan you really have the snow birds, but its still slow Jan and Feb...one person can handle the shop in the slow times. Spring, you'll need 4 at least.
