I used to be in your position and did the same thing you are doing. I got lot and lot of people answered to my posted but when I follow them, what I found was that they want to take my money.
In 2004, I decided to be pro-active, I build a website by myself. My website look really bad but I did not have the money to pay a professional to help me build one.

My website did not have any activity until in the middle of December 2008, I could not fill the flood of orders fast enough. All I invested were the time I spent in building the site, cost to host the web. Today, the only regret I have was that I did not start it sooner.

Steve, please stop thinking and asking for free help. You will not find it. edit

I like Pat Pat's comment--great advice! Getting into "Action Mode" is paramount, and information really doesn't come for free. I have been at-home self-employed for nine years doing different things, and I still struggle and have more recently found that building more "passive income" type models/businesses just makes more sense than trading time for money.

I don't know about some of the suggestions made above, but I do know that you could try www.elance.com or odesk.com or even writing articles on "how to" sites such as www.infobarrel.com or ehow.com, hubpages.com, ezine.com, firehow.com, etc., and it doesn't cost money to join these sites. However, it's not your own website, but you do own the rights to the articles you put up. It's nice passive income if you work hard enough in the beginning.

Another idea would be to check out The Thirty Day Challenge (TDC) on YouTube to get a good primer on what works NOW in internet marketing. You can just search for Ed Dale, who runs the TDC and is a WEALTH of information for those looking to get started and learn more about eCommerce. edit

Sure. You need to get people to your site/business, but the usual methods of cold calling doesn't work anymore...I'm not sure if it really ever did. What you need to do is be able to use your expertise and market yourself as such. Then, you need to be visible as that expert. People will flock to you if you are able to place yourself in a position of being visible. I know, there are a number of ways of doing this using all the "Social Network" sites like Twitter, etc..., and that is correct, but it HAS TO BE ORGANIZED and you need to operate as a system so all parts and "campaigns" are interconnected with each other. I've been using a system from this site to do that for me. It works like a charm...and it is very cheap. It organized all my marketing campaigns into one system that made it very easy for me to keep up with and monitor. It has been very effective as well.
