Need feedback on my new website

Hi PartnerUp Community,

I'm very excited about my new online venture. I think it will bring real value to job seekers. I'm live now but I'd like some feedback and advice on the site.

Please contact me if you're available to review my website and give me any pointers.

Thanks!
Marciela

Marciela,

I have some quick feedback here.

1) I think this is a good idea. I do not know what the competition is, but I am sure there will be demand if the service is good and the price is right.

2) The site looks professional, but also kind of "corporate". I suggest adding some more interesting (non-stock) graphics to give it a more personal feel.

3) I don't see anything about fees. That would make me nervous. I always want to know something about what to expect in terms of pricing, or a contract, or how things work, before registering. Maybe just add an FAQ where you discuss options. But if you really want to maximize the number of signups, make it free initially, and then set up e-commerce with a transparent pricing schedule later.

4) I am not exactly clear about who your real target audience is. Maybe give some more examples, but this should be clarified.

5) How long are these sample interviews, and what should a candidate expect in terms of difficulty, types of questions, etc.? Maybe have a few mp3 samples, or videos, to illustrate.

6) Would be nice to see some testimonials. If you start out with service being free, you can get these very quickly and easily.

7) This is purely technical. On my computer with my particular settings, I had to scroll over to the right to see some of the text. Might want to reduce the horizontal width of the page just a bit.

I have some other thoughts also. If you are interested in talking, I suggest an "offline" discussion on those sometime next week.

Andrew

Andrew Clark had some great points to make on your website. I have a website www.nmmusicawards.com which we currently run and get an average 200k visits per month. I find that having an organized website is key. Our page is obviously catered to our type of work and might be confusing to some however the most important part of any website is in fact how you market it to your viewers. Testimonials are a great way. I would suggest that since you are catering to the job force you should go to your local dept of labor and ask them to give you a brief opinion of your website. They will indeed be the right people who could help you add features to your website that you might have over looked. having all the appropriate info available at a glance will change how your site works for your viewers.

One thing i noticed when i visted the website is that it looks empty. What i mean by this is that your website looks lonely, no backing, no networking. Maybe on your home page you can add links or feed to social networks like Facebook or twitter. all fortune 500 companies have this. Adding widgets, flash videos, banners, etc will make your website more apealing and keep people on you site longer. all your other pages can be simple and to the point. Gotta spend money to make money so if yu have to pay somebody to do your graphics and artwork i suggest you do it. Avoid using stock photos! make your stuff custom for you site.

What a wonderful idea! And I agree with Enrique---add more to your website so that your visitors can interact more. I would love to help you out if there is anything you need!

Hi Marciela,

I noticed following issues that will help improve the site:

1. Optimize images. The header images is over 270kbs, if you save it for web in photoshop you can compress it all the way down to 100 to 150kbs.

2. I think you initially edited the text on a editor like microsoft word and pasted the content. coz i see it shows "resume alone isnÂ’t enough " instead of "resume alone isn’t enough". This is how it's showing in firefox. I am not sure about IE.

3. One more suggestion is to consider a theme from http://www.themeforest.com coz they are very well structured and work on all browsers.

For example: http://themeforest.net/item/elevate-business-portfolio-saas-html-template/fullscreenpreview/24623

I hope this helped. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I got that corrected but I'm not sure if you can see those same characters when you open up the site in Firefox. Are you using IE or Firefox as a browser? - Marciela Harris 41 on 7/3/2011

Try http://www.usertesting.com/ to test your site's goals. That service is cheap and can help you spot areas for improvement.

Offer an platform for the coaches and the job aspirants to make the things clear. In the mean time you would get user generated contents and if you could implement the things as social media integration, then more and more visitors will be there. Else suggestions by Andrew are absolutely great.

Thanks.

This is great feedback. I've been getting people to sign up as coaches so I've got some great talent lined up for interviews. The usability testing will be interesting to see. Do you think it's important that I incorporate a blog?

Hi Marciela- I looked at it. A good idea for an online business, I think. The website could be better, but its serviceable.
Yes, I think adding a blog would be a decent thing. That seems to be the "in" thing lately with most sites.
But I do think the site needs a little more "interest" or something else.
I think (also) that you should list some Fees. If you don't, I think people will be turned off a bit.
Good luck,
Ken L.

Just noticing the homepage:

"Whether you’re looking for a new career or have your sites on a premier school, you can’t afford to be unprepared."

"sites" should be "sights"

Good Idea though,
