Are there government rules for hiring interns?

Hi everyone: Are there specific hiring rules that have to be followed for interns? We were thinking about 2 paid positions for the winter quarter 2012. What do I need to know? Resources?

You might find this article helpful from Workforce.com. It displays funny n my browser, look to the right and you'll see it.

This is for unpaid positions, but still it seems like good adice.

Great suggestion, Brandon. Here's the US Department of Labor's "Fact Sheet #71: Internship Programs Under The Fair Labor Standards Act" about when payment is mandatory and offers a test for unpaid internships.
