Maureen Moore posted a new question on 1/30/2010

I want to be able to direct my own child care center. Where do I go for mentoring? What organizations should I be affilliated with?

I am a full time student in a degree program. Upon completion (winter 2010) I want to open and direct a child care center. I'd like to be connected, skilled and knowledgeable as much as possible between now and graduation. I'm willing to volunteer and/or work alongside a mentor to get the necessary hands-on experience in directing and managing a child care facility. I have no previous experience.

Dear Maureen,

You might want to check with your local childcare licensing board for referrals on quality programs to talk to in the area as well as guidelines for starting your own center. There is also the National Association for the Education of Young Children at http://www.naeyc.org that might be a good resource for you. Your local Head Start program will also have information on childcare guidelines.

Take care,

Guy
