Where is a source for real angel investors? If you are a scam artist, you are certainly invited to try and rob me. Your chances? Not great.

I already know that there are plenty of scams out there, but how about credible investors?

JIm,

I do not know what your business is or how much money you are seeking. If you have a good business plan, you might try a SBA guaranteed loan as a first step. Any lender will want to see a plan to see how they will get their investment back from the loan. Banks normally do not want to own a stake in your business. Angel investors will want a piece of the action. They both will want controls to make sure the investment works out.

An article on angel investors and how they work appeared in the 10/31/2009 issue of the Wall Street Journal by Jason Zweig. You might find that interesting. There is also an angel investor association. Their URL is http://www.angelcapitalassociation.org/. I have not dealt with them but you might see if there is one that fits your needs.

You can go to www.score.org and enter your zip code to find the closest SCORE chapter. You can arrange for a face to face meeting. They can review your plan or help you prepare one. SCORE is a volunteer organization so the service is free.

I hope that helps. Good luck.

Jim-

Angels like to work locally, unless the investment opportunity is unbelievable. I would search for groups in your area. Well organized groups will have a team to screen through proposals and only bring them the ones that fit there investment or expertise requirements.

Try this group

I'm also looking at Angels as a source of funding. If you find success with an Angel group I'd love to hear about your experience.

Best of luck.

Jesse
