Hi! I am starting a business that offers child care, senior care, pet services and housekeeping. I reside in Louisiana. Any helpful advice to target the above markets would be greatly appreciated. I have a website going up and have listed my services on craigslist, local newspapers and free newsletters. Any ideas where or how to advertise further?
Thanks!

Tori,
I am sure you are aware there are licensing requirements for several of the types of businesses you are starting. Child care licensing requirements are listed at URL www.daycare.com/louisiana . I am not sure how you plan on providing senior care (home bound or a nursing home facility) but there are requriements here too. Look at URL www.dhh.louisiana.gov/offices/publications.asp?ID=112 If Medicare is paying there will be federal requirements too.
If you have the proper legal requirements in place, you want identify the people or businesses who need your services. Are there businesses in your community who hire large numbers of women with preschool age children? Contact their Human Resource Department and let them know you are a reliable source for child care.
If you are talking about Home Care for the Elderly, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and some nursing home might refer families of patients who need your service. Is there a senior citizens organization in you town? Contact them for referrals.
You could use a mail campaign to contact them. It is best to call to get a name and address it as a personal letter. I think a follow up phone call and a personal sales call would generate better results.
Good luck to you.

Tori I think your doing the right things and you should keep doing what your doing. My advice to you would be to optimize your website as much as possible so it can get ranked in google and get your business listed for free inside of google maps.
By doing this your business will automatically come up in local search at the top of the search page. There is a paid version but you don't have to pay in order to get your business put on google maps. Here is the address to get your business listed for free something most companies will charge to do for you http://www.google.com/local/add/analyticsSplashPage?gl=us&hl=en-US
