How do I imply that there have been studies to support my product claims without getting into copyright trouble?

I have a product that I want to sell that deals with baby brains. There is research that backs up why my product might help but it is very doubtful that the doctors and universities will give me permission to quote or link back to them. How do I imply cause and effect with no evidence? Can I say "studies have shown.." and give a footnote in the ad? I will obviously disclaimer the heck out of it - I certainly do not wish to mislead, I just don't know what I can and can't say.
