What is the first step in starting a business?


I an interested in starting a non-profit. Is this starting process different from starting a for profit business?

Susan,

Not for profits as well as businesses can benefit from a business plan.

I recommend you go to www.score.org and click on Business Tools, next click Template Gallery and finally Business Planning Tools for Non profits.

You can see completed business plans at the following URL www.bplans.com/samples/sba.cfm . Click on the Nonprofit Business Plans tab and you can see what other startups felt were key issues in their startups.

Once you have reviewed this material go back to the SCORE site and enter your zip code to find a chapter near you. You can arrange for a face to face meeting with a counselor to discuss area where you feel you need help.

Score is a volunteer organization so all the services are free.
