I am starting a web based professional networking site that charges a premium pay subscription for it's members. What paper work do I need?

I know how to set up my business entity and I have a lawyer. I need to know what licenses you need for such a web business etc?

Michael,

Some of your answer you will find in NY state's website: http://www.nylovessmallbiz.com/home.asp - look in particular for biz registration and sales/use taxes. As a former web supplier watch the definitions of what is taxable and what is not - though I was in CT at the time so NY may be different. Some 'services' were taxable while other items were labeled as 'products' and were not taxable.

Your business will need a Federal EIN number and locally you will need to contact your town/city to obtain a business license and perhaps pay Privilege taxes. See for Federal:

And lastly (before all of this) you need to choose a business structure, though I assume your attorney is helping you with that aspect. You will need that choice before you can file w/ either Federal or State.

ps: In addition, with your attorney create your online Privacy Statement and Terms Of Use for your website.
