PartnerUp, Inc. was founded in February, 2005. While there's not much history to our company yet, we are making history as the first online community focused on bringing entrepreneurially-spirited people together with a goal of building companies, careers, and relationshipsSM.
We started PartnerUp because we are entrepreneurs, and, like just about every other entrepreneur, we've had a tremendously difficult time finding partners with the specific skills and experience that we needed for each of our ventures. Whether we were looking for a partner that was an electrical engineer or a marketing manager, it always seemed that the person that we were looking for was never easy to find and was always just out of our reach.
This got us to thinking, why isn't there an online community that can help entrepreneurs and companies find the people that they need, and allow people interested in getting involved in businesses to find those entrepreneurs and businesses?
Our goal is to allow entrepreneurs and businesses to find people who are interested in being a partner in their business and vice versa. Most of the opportunities advertised on PartnerUp are looking for a co-founder, executive, board member, or positions where people will get involved in the company as more than just an employee. While anyone is certainly welcome to post a traditional job on PartnerUp, we think that most of our members are looking for opportunities to become a key player in building a company. PartnerUp's core functionality centers around connecting entrepreneurially-spirited people who have common goals. PartnerUp helps entrepreneurs and businesses find the potential business partners, executives, board members, and skilled professionals that they need to make their venture a success. Concurrently, we help professionals (accountants, lawyers, and marketing people to name a few) find opportunities to become involved in helping to grow businesses by using their skills and experience. Finally, we provide a community for building lasting business relationships (and, in many cases, friendships) with others who share the same business and/or career goals.
Most entrepreneurs have also experienced a hard time trying to find office/industrial/retail space for their business. It always seems that smaller and medium sized spaces are rarely to never advertised, and it takes some amount of effort to get the broker, property manager, or owner to tell you some of the financial details of their listings, such as the price, or more commonly, what they expect for a minimum lease term.
We talked to brokers, property managers, and building owners to find out why they rarely advertised small spaces, and their answer was obvious: paying for an advertisement for small spaces is too expensive. We then thought of an interesting idea: what if brokers, property managers, and building owners could list their spaces for free, so long as they agreed to provide all of the details (including price and minimum lease term) upfront?
With this thought, MoveUp was born. MoveUp allows entrepreneurs and businesses to find the space that their company needs by searching for lease or for sale properties based on the size of the space, pricing, minimum lease term, and a plurality of other options. And, because MoveUp listings are free, you'll probably find more listings that match the needs of your business on PartnerUp.
We have always thought that the process of trying to find vendors for startups was more difficult than it needed to be. Finding companies that are willing to work with startups was difficult, and finding companies that catered to startups was nearly impossible. Thus, we created the PartnerUp Resource Directory. The Resource Directory allows a broad range of businesses who are interested in working with small to mid-sized businesses to advertise their services. PartnerUp members can then search for everything from accountants to lawyers to telecom companies.
