The prospect of a grant to start a business like a coffee shop is pretty weak. Not only are grants few and far between in general but for a 'for profit' business your potential sources are limited to government programs. The Federal website for grants is grants.gov. Your State or local governments may also have options to explore. Typically you can find state programs on your Governor's website. Typically any grant funds would focus on 'jobs or job training' and economic development.

Foundations can not offer grants to 'for profit' business.

This leave you with other funding sources such as family/friends/inventors. A bank loan will need guarantees. You may find the resources on this SBA site helpful

Your local SCORE Chapter has counselors who can help you with more questions. See www.score.org and use the Find Experts option to find that office.
