Gary Shelton posted a new Financing A Business thread on 6/2/2010

Funding For Your Business

I’ve founded three companies that combined received over $14 million in funding from angel investors. I’m passionate about starting companies, networking with Angel Investors, and introducing entrepreneurs to angel investors that will fund their businesses. To assist entrepreneurs in getting funded I share my experience, and some of the lessons I’ve learned about pitching companies to investors. With modifications, you can also use these techniques to pitch prospective angel investors, employees, partners, customers, and anyone else you seek to influence.

When you’re ready to make your business pitch to an Angel Investor, the gears are turning and its time to show what you have. Before you do, I’ll help you to consider the following points, work the list below, and harden your presentation with lots of practice and focus:
1) Less is more – If there is one point I hope you take away. Keep it concise and to the point. Ten slides or less and know your material backwards and forwards.

• Define product or service
• How does it benefit your customer
• Define size of your market
• Define your competitive advantage-your competition
• Define your barriers to entry
• Define your team-why you?
• Define your financial plan
• Define how you’re going to use funds
• Define the exit

I am working on a concept that could change the way African-American women spend their money on hair products. I am in need of funding for this concept. Can you help?

Hey Roosevelt, considering how much I spend on my sixteen year old daughter's hair, I'd certainly like to know more about your concept. Do you have an executive summary? If so I need to see it.

I'm looking for a loan--not a partner--for my LLC. I looked at both of your websites but couldn't figure out what it is you do.

Dear Mr. Shelton,

I want to first thank you for this oppurtunity. I will keep it short and sweet. My name is Stevepaul and I have a major invention for the after-market automobile industry. I have invented something that no one or patent search has come up with. I have taken my product/invention to a reputable marketing/licensing company and they decided to take it on. I am in need of the small of funding which ranges from 4500-8950. This is for the services agreed upon in the contract in which they offer. I have a blueprint/business plan which talks about what the company does and my product itself. I would not even waist your time especially for this small amount of money. My agent and I even went over some "mock" numbers and it was shocking. It was shocking because we did a test run for the product should it not do well and it still did very well. I thank you for your time and look forward to speaking with you. Take care and god bless!

Hey Gary,

I want to start a new website to help connect potential nontraditional students with sponsors/benefactors. One of my main intentions is to help people who want to go back to school to improve their quality of life but have too much debt to get started. The website will allow potential benefactors to peruse the profiles of potential recipients and hand-pick which ones they would like to donate to. There will be a blog section to the website that allows recipients to update their benefactor(s) on their progress. Please let me know if you would like to hear more.

Thank you for your time!

I see that John Kelley responded for business ventures in excess of 1 mil. My wife and I are seeking financing for purchasing a existing profitably liquor store in Flordia. We previously owned and operated a package liquor store in Maryland. Are there any lenders out there providing financing for this type of business venture with a focus on bad credit entrepreneurs?

Hey Gary,

I am working towards a Savings Unifying Platform(SUP) that would enable users to receive a deal, savings, or discount wherever a good or service is purchased. I have a programmer currently working on the website and a backend team holding up the financial processing, site functions etc. I am looking to raise about $10,000 to get inventory needed for this process. If this is something you would be able to assist in, then I would appreciate your communication.

In appreciation of your time,

François

Go to www.amusacc.com to look at our various loan options; then fill out the contact form and we will get in touch shortly thereafter. We don't loan on credit scores, we loan on assets...real estate, equipment buy-lease-back, cash flow, etc. For instance, if you need money to expand your business by purchasing new equipment, we will buy the equipment and lease it back to you. If you need money to pay property taxes, we will pay the taxes and secure it with the property.

This is not rocket science! You'll see plenty of ads for unsecured loans with just your signature or some other kind of easy money scam. Check them out and then come to us for a real discussion and analysis of your needs.
