Interested in a methodology for conducting market research for an internet based company. Any suggestions?

Develop the need.
While I am not certain what you are referring to or what you may have already tried, one suggestion may be for you to create a model of the perfect consumer.
Invision the user's demograhics, gender, size of corp, constraints, etc.
Align the facts with, 'the result' i.e. what does your ibc offer?
Now write up a market research questionaire to gather, 'the right fit' responses your ibc wants. Possibly at the same time you could generate some interest in what your ibc has different than their competitor and/or find out what the targeted market actually needs or wants
