SEO and pagerank help

Our website was at pagerank 5. After hiring a SEO to distribute our company information in directories, it fell to 3. Why did this happen?

Google's PR is almost random nowadays. Go by how your keywords work in Google and the other search engines. Links and good SEO is the only things that place you in the search engines. PR means nothing. Read my blog http://admanbb.blogspot.com/
to see if there is a common ground for us to do business together.

Hi Alena,
The only way to increase a page rank is to increase number of incoming links and getting those with a higger page rank if possible, if not you need lots of smaller ones.
Anyway it's not fault of your SEO team, google algorith works alone, and it calculates new rankings every month, and every 3 or 6 a big adjustment. Also they change the algorithm sometimes a year, and pages just go up or down depending on new criteria.
Hope to help
Ricart

Alena,
It is quite possible that the SEOer listed your company on web directories ranking lower than 5. Another possibility - your company was listed on web directories that were not related to your business or industry. The most important element of a successful incoming link strategy is quality incoming links, rather than quantity.
