Michael, some of what you decide to use depends on you and your skills. If you're a pretty good writer and have someone who can edit and proofread for you, start a blog in your area of expertise. Once the blog is going, you can Tweet about the blog posts and create a Facebook business page to promote it. These are basic social media moves. Other things you can do include creating presentations on your area of expertise and giving them to civic or professional groups.

I recently read Guy Kawasaki's "Enchantment" and recommend it. The book is all about creating a personal brand that will help you persuade people. I highly recommend it!

Getting leads and branding yourself are really two different projects. Both are important and both can effect each other, but they are two different assignments you need to tackle. What is your business about? Keep in mind your greatest asset is your knowledge of what you do. Your greatest marketing tool is to show others just how much knowledge you have. By doing this, you are branding yourself as an expert in your field. An expert isn't someone that knows it all, it's someone that can get answers. Attraction Marketing is the best form of marketing you can use. It can be applied to any business, and it works for any business, as long as each step in the process is followed in order and complete.
