From what I've read (I'm in your boat, I have developed an idea for a social network niche also) you need to have a strong management/development team in place first before investors will take you seriously. The hardest thing I've found is finding a technical partner to do the back-end work on the site, and convincing one to work for only an equity share. I'm an attorney who previously worked in web content/design in an e-commerce firm, but I'm not a programmer or database administrator. So most investors and technical IT people will view you, as they tend to do with me, as merely an "idea" person, and there's a million of those to go around. Feel free to contact me, as I'm also a south Floridian. I'm at creativeforhire@gmail.com
