Not familiar with taxes for professional services. Do you add the tax to your fee? Thanks for guiding me.

Do I need to bill my customers the flat rate (I charge an hourly rate) or do I add the NYS tax, as I see it on invoices when I get my car serviced for instance? I bill internet tutoring.

See your State's Taxation chart here and see if the services you provide are taxable. Hint, look in detail. In my own first small business in another state, my consulting services were not taxable but some of the "services' or 'functions" I performed for my customers were.
