| Company Information | Nationalities Service Center (NSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides social, educational, senior, translation and interpretation, and legal services to immigrants and refugees in the Greater Philadelphia area. Each year, we help approximately 4,000 individuals from over 90 countries. Our mission is to help immigrants and refugees participate fully in American society. We implement this mission by meeting four main objectives:
* Protecting legal rights * Strengthening families and promoting self-sufficiency * Eliminating barriers caused by language and cultural differences * Promoting public awareness of the benefits of diversity in American society All immigrants and refugees are welcome to take part in NSC services - regardless of legal status, country of origin, number of years in the U.S. and English language abilities |
| Position Information | A Board Member has legal, fiduciary, and financial responsibility to the organization, Nationalities Service Center. The Board is ultimately responsible for the following: establishing and carrying out policy in relation to determining the mission and purpose of the organization; approving goals and objectives of all programs; monitoring the programs and services against its goals; ensuring the organization is properly managed and proper judgment is used in all business and financial transactions; approving fundraising goals and plans as well as participating in all fundraising campaigns and events; serving as an ambassador for Nationalities Service Center (enhancing the organization's public image); selecting, supporting and reviewing the performance of the Executive Director; selecting, recruiting, and developing new Board members; and assessing its own performance as a Board. Board members with financial expertise are especially desired but we welcome all backgrounds and seek a diverse Board membership. |
