Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church Position Summary: The Worship Leader will be responsible for providing worship leadership at the 9:00 contemporary worship service. He/She will do this by: 1. Creating an inviting atmosphere in which people experience God and respond by expressing worship 2. Leading the congregation and the members of the worship and technical arts ministry in growing their own relationships with the Lord through worship Philosophy: The Worship Leader must provide leadership in three areas: Organizational Leadership, Team/Event Leadership, and Support Leadership. Initially, these roles will be small and handled by one person, but as the ministry grows, the responsibilities must be spread out among others. They three areas are described as: 1. Organizational Administration: Long-range Plan, Create Structure, Set Goals & Budget, Personnel Issues, Mentor Leaders, Meet with Leaders, Pastoring Teams 2. Lead Events/Train People: Lead Worship, Lead Rehearsal, Training Events, Mentor team members, Worship Teams, Provide Resources 3. Administrative Tasks: Lead Technical Arts Team [sound, video, lighting], Chord Charts, Schedules, Licenses, Communications Roles: The Worship Leader must develop in each of these roles to lead at the highest level of effectiveness: 1. Theologian – fidelity to the truth 2. Host – hospitality, rapport, connectedness, interpret the moment 3. Shepherd – care, safety, pastoral, direction 4. Prophet – clarity, purpose 5. Architect – designing the plan to share the Christ Story 6. Coordinator – the glue, synergy, unity, chemistry 7. Psalmist – beauty, huge musical dynamics Responsibilities: 1. Lead and train others to lead the musical worship for the 9:00 AM contemporary worship service a. Be prepared to lead congregational singing in a contemporary style with the Praise Team [or alone] b. Provide Contemporary style music for moments other than congregational singing [i.e. offering, special music, altar calls, communion, etc…] c. Utilize new, current, and traditional songs staying current on US trends in worship music d. Be able to read scripture and pray as needed e.
