A Employee Opportunity in or near Madison, WI

ID or Reference # 1154
Job Type Full-Time
Job Description Student Spill LLC—often known by the acronym of SPILL, standing for "Supporting Peers in Laid-back Listening"—is an online peer-based support system that allows college students to "spill" their problems via email, and get personalized feedback from other local students with experience in their specific issue. Whether individuals are struggling with roommate problems, homesickness, worries about the future, romantic relationships, body image issues, concerns about sexuality, or even just a bad day, they can go to www.studentspill.com, choose the campus they’re writing in from, and vent about it. Within 24 hours, these anonymous "spillers" receive messages of support from 6-8 of SPILL’s volunteer "student facilitators" who provide feedback, empathy, and resources for that specific problem. Since the process is completely internet-based and both parties are anonymous to one another, SPILL allows students to get unbiased support at all hours of the day, and provides an outlet for venting about everyday stressors that may otherwise remain bottled-up.

This program, then, is a valuable mental health resource for colleges and universities, and can be sold on a membership basis alongside things like Alcohol Awareness programs that typically go for $50-80,000 a year. SPILL originated on the campus University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008, and has since spread to 4 other colleges in the US, with 7 other campuses in line to receive this program in the summer of 2010. The company will then pursue the market of 5,000+ colleges/universities in the US, the market of 20-30,000 online universities worldwide, and potentially other industries such as high schools, the military, pediatric hospitals, and adult groups.

In the last year, the company has won awards such as "Most Investment Ready" company as well as "Most Innovative Startup," as well as over $75,000 in grant money. With potential venture capital funding in line, the company is now looking for the "right people" to help make this nationwide impact. We are therefore looking for seasoned professionals or young professionals with experience in start-ups to fulfill the role of VP-Operations & Finance in the first year, with potential promotion to COO/CFO based on performance. If interested, please email CEO/Founder Heidi Allstop at spillnationals@gmail.com, or visit www.studentspill.com to learn more about the organization's mission.
