James,
Linked in is an online social networking site. I do not know what type of business you have.
If you wanted to locate or get introduced to someone in a particular company or industry, you could do that. It could be used to find business opportunities from your contact network. There are a number of jobs listed on the site.
I use it to keep up with things that are happening in my industry and my contacts in that industry. I hope that helps.
